What is a 1:1 aspect ratio?
The 1:1 aspect ratio is a square format primarily used for images and videos, particularly on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. This aspect ratio is commonly found on small devices like smartwatches but is not on larger displays like monitors and televisions.
This 1:1 ratio is 25% shorter than the 4:5 portrait aspect ratio and 43.8% taller than the wide 16:9 aspect ratio used for daily displays, photos, and video content.[1]
The aspect ratio has a standard format of 1:1 or W:H, where W is the width, and H is the height of an image, screen, or container. In digital space, the measurement unit is in pixels. You can pronounce it "one-by-one" or "one-to-one" aspect ratio.
1:1 ratio formula
You can use the one-by-one ratio formula to check if an image or display has a 1:1 aspect ratio. First, determine the width and height of your image, video, or screen in centimeters, inches, or pixels. If the width and height are the same, or if the result of dividing the width by the height equals 1.00, then it has a 1:1 aspect ratio.
And width always equals height.

FAQs
How do I calculate the 1:1 aspect ratio?
The 1:1 aspect ratio is a screen or image format that proportionally contains the same horizontal and vertical units. It can be calculated by dividing the width by height and getting a value of 1.00.
For example, the ratio between the width and height of the 36 x 36 and 176 x 176 resolutions equals 1.00.
How to use 1:1 aspect ratio calculator by Calculator Hub?
Our 1:1 aspect ratio calculator is easy to use. You only need to input one dimension (width or height), and the calculator will automatically calculate the other dimension based on the 1:1 aspect ratio. For instance, if you enter a width of 640 pixels, the calculator will calculate a height of 640 pixels.
On top of that, by entering a screen diagonal, you will also get additional information, including the screen's width, height, pixel density, and more.
